If you think it's hard to change the lives of ten people

change their lives forever you're wrong

I saw it happen every day in Iraq and Afghanistan
我在伊拉克和阿富汗每天都在碰到这样的例子
A young Army officer makes a decision to go left
一位年轻的军官决定往左走
instead of right down a road in Baghdad
而不是朝巴格达的道路直走
and the ten soldiers with his are saved from close-in ambush
十位战士就因此免受了敌人的伏击
In Kandahar province, Afghanistan
在阿富汗坎大哈省
a non-commissioned officer from the Female Engagement Team senses something isn't right
来自女性战斗小队的一位士官察觉到了异常
and directs the infantry platoon away from a 500 pound IED

saving the lives of a dozen soldiers

But, if you think about it

not only were these soldiers saved by the decisions of one person

but their children were saved and their children's children

Generations were saved by one decision of one person

But changing the world can happen anywhere and anyone can do it

So, what starts here can indeed change the world
从这里开始 我们确实能够改变世界
but the question is, what will the world look like after you change it?

威廉·麦克雷文，1977年加入海豹突击队，四星级上将，曾指挥猎杀伊拉克高级将领和击毙本拉登行动，2011年8月，就任美国特种作战司令部总司令。麦克雷文是德克萨斯大学的校友，此番重回校园发表毕业典礼演讲，他将自己最初在海豹突击队训练时的经历分享给毕业生，并从中抽出哲理，作为对毕业生的建议。
