Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two inpiduals and appoint seven inpiduals to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Neil Romano, of Maryland, to be Assistant Secretary of Labor (Disability Employment Policy) and upon confirmation appoint to be a Member of the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled (Representing the Department of Labor). Mr. Romano currently serves as Founder of the America’s Strength Foundation and President of the Romano Group, LLC. Prior to this, he was President of Neil Romano Associates. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Communications of the White House Office of Drug Abuse Policy. Mr. Romano received his bachelor’s degree from New York University.

The President intends to nominate Douglas H. Shulman, of the District of Columbia, to be Commissioner of Internal Revenue at the Department of the Treasury. Mr. Shulman currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, previously known as the National Association of Securities Dealers. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Darby Overseas Investments. Prior to this he served as Senior Policy Advisor and later Chief of Staff of the bi-partisan National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Shulman received his bachelor’s degree from Williams College, his master’s degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

The President intends to appoint the following inpiduals to be Members of the Advisory Council to the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross:

Michael Chertoff, of New Jersey

Robert M. Gates, of Texas

Carlos M. Gutierrez, of Michigan

Mike Leavitt, of Utah

Michael G. Mullen, of California

Condoleezza Rice, of California

Margaret Spellings, of Texas
