卡尔文·库利奇是美国第30任总统，生于佛蒙特州，父亲是一位村庄店主、州议会议员，母亲在他12岁时去世。库利奇从阿默斯特学院毕业后参加政治活动，职业是律师。1905年，库利奇与格雷丝·安娜·古德林结婚，生有二子。

卡尔文·库利奇生于佛蒙特州普利茅斯，原名约翰。1895年毕业于安姆赫斯特学院，改用卡尔文为名。毕业之后在Northampton，麻萨诸塞州做律师，1899年入步政界。1923年至1929年的美国总统。他还当过沃伦·G·哈丁的副总统和麻萨诸塞州州长。

卡尔文·库利奇总统最主要功绩，是削减了联邦税收和开支和按比例减少了德国的战争赔款。库利奇曾经说过，美国是一个搞实业的国家，所以需要一个为实业界服务的政府。他还进一步指出：“建一座工厂就是盖一座圣殿，在工厂干活就是住那里做礼拜。”在共和党执政的20年代，办实业不只是赚钱的手段，它还成了教育界．出版界．乃至宗教界所崇拜的对象。这一类的虔诚的崇拜者都在读着布鲁斯·巴顿那本关于耶稣基督的畅销书，书名叫《不为人所了解的人》书中有许多妙论，其中之一是：如果耶稣在世，他也会到广告社去当会计主任。那些自小听过牧师说耶稣出身木工家庭的人，会觉得这种说法是很惊人的。
