伟大的朋友
As I am now a senior high school student, I have a great many friends,
尽管我现在已经是一个高中生了，有很多朋友。
but there is one whom I prize over all the rest.
但有一个朋友是我一生该珍重的。
I first made his acquaintance when I began to go to school.
当我刚迈进校门时就和他相识了，
He has been my constant companion ever since.
从那以后，他成为我忠实的伴侣。
Though he is serious in appearance,he never fails to be interesting.
虽然他面容严肃，但是很风趣。
Often he is clever, sometimes even merry and gay.
它很聪明，有时甚至疯疯癫癫。
He is the most knowledgeable friend a person could have.
他是任何人能够结识的学识最为渊博的朋友。
He knows virtually every language of the world,all the events of history,
他懂得世界上所有语言所有的历史事件，
and the words of all the great poets and philosophers.
还有所有不朽诗人和哲学家的至理名言。
A kindly benefactor,
作为一个施与者，
he is admired and enjoyed by everyone who makes his acquaintance.
他深受所有与之交友的人的赞美和喜爱。
To me,he has been a great teacher as well as a friend.
对我来说，他既是一个老师又是一个朋友。
He first taught me the secrets of my own language and then those of others.
他首先教会了我母语的奥秘，随后是其他语言的奥秘。
With these keys he showed us how to unlock all the arts and sciences of man.
用这些知识，他向我演示了如何解开所有人类艺术和科学之谜。
My friend is endlessly patient.
我的朋友很耐心。
Dull though I may be I can return to him again and again,
不管我怎么笨，我可以一次又一次地请教他，
and he is always ready to teach me.
而他也是时刻准备着教我。
When I am bored,he entertains me.When I am dispirited,he lifts me up.
当我烦恼时，他让我愉悦；当我沮丧时，他让我振奋；
When I am lonely,he keeps me company.
当我孤独时，他伴我左右。
He is a friend not only to me but to millions around the world.
他不仅仅是我的朋友，而且是成千上万人的朋友。

我该告诉你他的名字吗？他的名字就是"阅读"。
