I want to talk about how I first discovered it

and then almost lost it

It's a story about recognizing an opportunity

but also about facing failure

I know it's hard to believe, but in 2004 there was no YouTube

and video on the Internet was rare

We were trying to figure out the right strategy for Google

to be in the online video business

We're trying lots of different things and nothing was getting traction

And one day, we decided we would allow users to upload their videos to Google
