科学，是善还是恶
Science has brought many changes to the whole of society,
就我们所知，科学是整个社会发生了变化，
especially to our lives in recent years.

And at the same time the debate regarding the good and evil effects of science

has gained wide attention.

It is hardly too much to say

science is the most important factor in the progression of human beings.
科学是促使人类进步的最主要的因素。
The great develop- ments in the field of medicine
医药方面的重大发展
have served to lengthen our life expectancy,
使人类寿命得以延长。
and the discovery of better seeds and pest control
优良品种的发现和虫害控制
have worked to increase productivity levels in agriculture.
有助于提高农业生产水平。
In transport,the railway,
在交通运输领域，铁路，
modern ships jet planes and moter vehicles have made our lives
现代化轮船和机动车使我们的生活
more and more comfortable
越来越舒适，
and have provided convenient tools for commercial development.
也为商业的发展提供了便利的工具。
The computer,
电脑，
which is considered to be the greatest invention of the 20th century,
是20世纪最伟大的发明，它在日常生活中必不可少，
is playing an important role in our daily life.
极其重要。
On the other hand, however, science also gives us lots of problems.
然而另一方面，科学也给我们带来了许多问题。
Modern industry has caused pollution and energy crisises.
现代工业导致了环境污染和能源危机，
The nuclear bomb has threatened our existence.
核弹威胁着我们的生存
And a more serious fact is
更为重要的事实是
that some computer prodigies have been sent to prison for computer crimes.
一些电脑奇才因为电脑犯罪而被捕入狱。
Despite all this,

we still spare no efforts in the deve- lopment of science and technology.
我们仍旧不遗余力地致力于科技的发展。
Maybe it is really true that everything has two sides.
也许这就是所谓的每个事物都有两面性吧。
