Keeping a diary—recording precious moments

写日记–记录珍贵的时刻

It has been a long time since I kept a diary,

自从我开始写日记已经有很长时间了,

but I am then thinking more and more about the value of some kind of journal.

但我对于日记的价值思考的越来越多。

Although writing daily in a diary is tough, it's good a habit to have, especially when learning a language, or if you want to be some kind of writer.

虽然每天记日记很艰难,但这是很好的一种习惯,尤其是当学习一种语言,或者如果你想成为某种形式的作家。

Getting into the habit of writing a little bit everyday, is supposedly one of the important things a writer can do.

让自己对于每天写一点变得习惯,这被认为是身为一名作家可以做的最重要的事情。

Yesterday, I was thinking about great scenes of movies and I got to thinking about the great scenes of my own life,

昨天,我在考虑电影的伟大场面,而我开始思考我自己生命中的伟大场面,

scenes that I should remember, that I should write down somewhere.

我应该记住的那些片段,我应该写下来。

As time goes by, I tend to forget those things.

随着时间的流逝,我往往忘记那些东西。

As time goes by, the things tend to lose focus,

随着时间的流逝,事情往往将会失去焦点,

they tend to become less sharp, they fade a little.

它们会变得不那么尖锐,甚至会有一点褪色。

So, I'm starting to write stuff down more and more.

所以,我开始写的东西就越来越多。

It's amazing how many things wakes experience in a day or in a week.

很令人惊讶,这么多的事要在一天醒来后或者在一星期内经历,

but if you don't take the time to write some of those things down, the days just blur.

但是如果你不花时间去记录一些事物,日子就会一天天变得模糊起来。

It's hard to separate one day from another, time surely does fly by.

很难把一天从另外一天分开,时间肯定已经流逝。

Capturing the precious moments in a lives with words,

那就用话语捕捉生活中珍贵的时刻,

in little stories, seems necessary to make your own lives more colorful,

这些小故事似乎成了使自己的生活更加丰富多彩的必需品,

even when we feel a little blue.

即使我们觉得有点闷。

We can look at those memories, those moments, and feel uplifted.

我们可以看看那些记忆,那些时刻,从而感到某种振奋。

Can these two definitions be conflated, or must they be kept separate?

这两个定义可以合成一个呢,还是必须分开?

4. uplift v.鼓舞;提高

It will uplift me in moments of despair yet it will calm me in time of exultation.

绝望时,使我振作;狂喜时,让我平静。

5. private a.私人的;个人的

The president is paying a private visit to Europe.

总统正在欧洲进行私人访问。
