Some seem to believe that our politics can afford to be petty because, in a time of peace, the stakes of our debates appear small.

But the stakes for America are never small.

If our country does not lead the cause of freedom, it will not be led.

If we do not turn the hearts of children toward knowledge and character, we will lose their gifts and undermine their idealism.

Now we must choose if the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us.

乔治·沃克·布什（别名“小布什”），1946年7月6日，出生于美国康涅狄格州。于1995年-2000年间担任第46任的德克萨斯州州长。于2001年-2009年担任美国第43任（第54-55届）总统，任内遭遇了2001年的9·11事件，随后于2001年-2003年先后发动阿富汗战争、伊拉克战争等一系列反恐战争并取得较大成效，推行了1.3万亿元的减税计划、以及对于医疗保险和社会福利体制的改革和社会保守主义的政策。
